what’s new with me (and a giveaway!)

I went to the see Onegin with my friends, Autumn & Sara

I made a super easy pasta… cook some spinach tortellini and while it is cooking, heat up some olive oil with garlic and onion, throw in a couple handfuls of fresh spinach and cherry tomatoes, give a quick grind of salt and pepper, and then toss everything together and top with a cloud of grated pecorino romano!  So good, and it took less than 15 minutes to make!

D and I went to the Ferry Building for Primavera

I made a cheese sauce bc I had lots of types of yummy cheese in the freezer

Don’t you just love how nutmeg looks inside?  I do.
cheese sauce = macaroni and cheese for Super Bowl

(and of course some sausage rolls, that’s always a given)

I also made Thomas Keller’s fancy smancy chocolate cake that mum had bought me as a pressie.  Don’t cringe… this is not your normal boxed cake, there are no weirdo ingredients, and it was so light and fluffy.  Truly delicious!  (especially when smothered in an extra thick layer of chocolate buttercream frosting!)

there was a trip to Roam after slaving (ha, hardly) in the kitchen all day

(the bison cheeseburger is the best)

we ate my favorite breakfast ever… eggs and soldiers

the appies were a Super Bowl success

Feather made a really tasty bean salad

and Sarah made How Sweet Eats’ baked ravioli

Olivia was the most ferocious Giants fan ever in her cute little blue jersey

I went to Starbucks just so I could get a February LOVE cup

and we kicked off The Food Matters Project with chipotle glazed squash skewers!

next week we’ll be posting the recipe for seasoned popcorn!

(you’ll never want to buy microwaveable again)

Oh, and btw… we’re giving away two copies of The Food Matters Cookbook!  Just leave a comment on our week one review post for a chance to win this awesome book!

You have until midnight (central time) Monday, February 13th to enter!

weekend recap

This weekend was fun.

I started Friday off with a smoothie, sans spinach so it’s pretty and pink!

(greek yogurt, banana, strawberries, raspberries, orange juice)

D and I were heading to the Giants game later that night, so we stopped by Market Bar on our way.  They have the best happy hour!

especially when you can snag a spot outside on a warm sunny day!

It’s a nice walk from the Ferry Building to Pac Bell park…

great views of the other bridge!

Check out our seats!

I was cracking up at the people behind us… they were so into it, just listen!

Wahoo we won!  Now it’s fireworks time…

so cool

The next morning was a typical Saturday…

bar method followed by the Ferry Building

strawberry lemonade from Primavera

argh, I can’t remember the exact name of these but they were delicious…

chicken chalupas, in handmade corn tortilla “boats”,

with avocado, salsa & sour cream

After some studying followed by a mellow night in on Saturday I woke up bright and early for my long run of the week… 5 miles, with walking my total milage ended up being 6.6 miles.

I had to walk some of it because my calves were still in such pain from my vibrams experience.  I’m shocked at how sore I was for so long… crazy pain. I’m glad to say the pain finally subsided today… wooohoooo!

memorial day weekend

Bar Method and the Ferry Building… my idea of a perfect Saturday morning.

strawberry lemonade

yum

The lines were crazy, but Primavera’s carnitas tacos were worth the wait.

After our ferry building fun I had to go to the office to get some studying done… bleh.

And when I finally finished it started raining… double bleh.

And then I had to take the bus because there were no cabs… triple bleh.

And walk home from the bus stop in the pouring rain… you get the picture.

At least there was a yummy dinner in store for us… a roast chicken from RoliRoti, oven roasted organic purple potatoes & asparagus.

Toss both with olive oil, salt & pepper and bake the potatoes at 350 degrees for thirty minutes, then put the asparagus in and cook both for fifteen minutes longer.

I’ve always liked oven roasted potatoes, but the oven roasted asparagus?

Let me tell you, d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s.

And cherries for dessert.

Complete with a Pirates of the Caribbean movie and a bottle of red from the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant wine club… perfect.  Oh, and the red was a 2008 Gerard Bertrand Grand Terroir, a blend of 50% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache, and 25% Carignane… it was really, really good.

Sunday morning we woke up to a glorious SF day… perfect for a 5 mile run.

Some crazy waves down by the bridge.

Don’t believe me?  Take a look!

Love this shot… I took it while running and looked like a crazed person with my arms raised in the air, but I got it!

Monday morning we decided to walk to the Warming Hut for some coffee to start off our day.

Almost there!

Good view.

Good latte.

This view never gets old.

There was a little shark swimming about in the bay here…

I tried to get a shot of his itty bitty fin but no luck.

No luck with video either, but the view is nice.

I love rock art.

On the walk home we walked by these amazing roses.

They put our rooftop garden to shame!
